Evening, I’ve just changed my cambelt, tension etc and water pump with a gates kit. I noticed that the pump rotation was different. I have had it running and gets up to temp thermostat opens and it cools down fine, however I’ve heard that this pump is wrong and I need one which pumps the other way like the one I originally had.
Please can anyone shed any light on this?
Cheers
Brian

Just had another think and it looks like the pump going the other way is bypassing the thermostat, is this a major issue?

Hi Brian

I could be wrong, but it sticks in the back of my mind that on the 2 litre silver top you use the water pump off of the 1.8 litre silver top, which if i'm right has the correct rotation. I'm sure some one on here will be able to confirm this, or not??!!

Scott

Thanks Scott, Retro Ford do one but it’s £125 which I think is a bit pricey all though you do get a lightened pulley with it(which I am not that bothered about)

Just run the one you have with the back of the belt so it runs the correct way.

If you pivot the alternator up as high as possible underneath the inlet manifold, you can use an 813mm long poly-v belt with the grooved side around the alternator and crank pulleys and the smooth side against the water pump.

I`ve run mine off the back of the belt for 12 years and it`s been fine.

Just keep an eye on the alternator brackets ..
One of mine cracked which allowed the alternator to drop slightly.
This resulted in no belt contact and a blown head gasket shortly after.

Changed to a Blacktop Zetec at this point 😉
This was about 8 year back though.
