I saw this on a Tiger at Stoneleigh in 2018 and I would like to get hold of similar items.

Gaiter trim 2.jpg

If anyone recognises it and/or can point me in the direction of a supplier I'd be grateful if you could let me know.

Michael.

Hi Michael

I had a look on the internet for any thing similar to these alloy trim pieces you are looking for and found absolutely zero.

Then I did a google search and found a company called Laser Master who look like the might be able to help you. Have a look at their website it lets you choose the material, the shape, the dimensions and even the quantity required and then gives you a price.

Check it out, might be of help to you.

Hope all is well with you in these mad times

Scott

Hi Scott, trust you are keeping well.

Thanks for the input re Laser, I'll have a good look at their services. I think the Tiger at Stoneleigh belonged to a TOC member but I didn't have much chance to chat as he was having his lunch!

The need for these trim pieces arises from the installation of the quick rack which I shall report on in due course (i.e. when I've finished it!).

Michael.

Search on Google for "gear surround" as you may find something there that's suitable or some ideas.

My gear surround, albeit oval, is very similar to what you're looking for.  The border is about 1" wide.

I started with a sheet of 6mm thick aluminium, marked out the inner and outer holes and used a jigsaw to cut slightly outside the lines.  I then used various grades of files to get it exactly to shape and smooth off the edges before polishing it up.

Hi Michael

I'm fine thanks, Iwas wondering why you need the alloy surround pieces, is it because the quick rack kit shifts the position of the steering rack slightly?

Looking forward to seeing your report on fitting this, no pressure[smile], just take your time and do a good job, remember, measure at least twice, and cut once.

You might also try looking for roll bar trim.

Aye Scott, there's the rub! I was given to believe that the Escort rack would sit higher than the Cortina but it actually sits c. 1.5" lower and forward. There is absolutely no way of measuring up prior to trial locating the new rack so I was progressively hacking away at the panel to extend the aperture (using a combination of shears, saw & nibbler). The end result is rather ugly 'butchery'.

Thanks for your suggestion Paul, I had seen that there were a couple of possibilities (MK, Europa & Kitcardirect). Tiger had supplied some 1.3 mm aluminium sheet but I can't see this being used 'aesthetically'. I'm looking at something along the lines of 140 mm O/D with a c. 85 - 90 I/D.

Thanks Schrodinger, that's worth a look.

Michael.

Good shout Andy. Actually their circular spigot plates may be more appropriate. I'll do some more measuring & mock-ups.

Michael.
