Hi. My cat e1 has a type 9 gearbox. The cable had popped out and when I replaced (with new circlip) it still won't work. Is it possible to replace drive gear without removing gearbox? Thanks

It is but it's not easy there is a 'blanking plug' on the other side of the gearbox which you need to remove and then extract the current gear and then insert the new one, but they seem to be getting more difficult to get hold of and you need to either make sure you get the same ratio gear or have your speedo recalibrated.

BTW are you sure that the inner cable hasn't broken?

Can you unclip the cable from the speedo end and then get someone to twist it from the gearbox end. If the Speedo end isn't turning then you know it's the cable rather than anything else.
