Disaster

ST engine purchased from EBay installed.
All ancillaries added, electrics back in place, water added.

Engine never been started - in garage for 5 months.

Turned engine over then it bursts into life.
Few seconds later see a spay from above alternator.
Switch engine off and nite oil seeping from under engine.
Continues to seep - looks like full capacity of sump has dumped on the floor.

Any suggestion on why so much oil would leak at one time?

Walked away in disgust at this point ....

I wonder if this is coming from the hole in the cylinder head in the pressurised gallery where the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor would normally be?

I've not got a picture myself, look at the following picture:

Directly underneath the right most inlet port there are two holes in the ally head.  The right of those holes (directly above the "rusty" hole on the block) is where the CHT sensor goes and if open would explain oil spraying out over the alternator.

With help from my son we managed to track down source of problem.

Turning the engine over with son watching around alternator area, we confirmed it was from oil filter area.

Removing the new filter I noted a rubber ring that was stuck to the block.
This was from the ST oil cooler that was removed. Never notices the rubber ring.

With this removed and filter added, engine run once more with no more major leaks.
One more issue closed.

Amazon weld repair delivery arrived this afternoon so, next job is dump removal and weld repairs.

Cheers Jim
