Hi folks,

here's the link to my build diary: http://www.thymesit.co.uk/tiger

it's not going to be finished anytime soon, especially as I'm currently recuperating from a hernia op.
Site's a bit basic, but it's all my own work!

Nice site and looks like a very good deal you got there, some of the pics are HUGE though, have a look at the image resizing thread under the Discussion forum for some nice utils to resize pics or you can use html to limit the pic size displayed. Keep it up though, and btw 40 miles is no excuse, the race care lives 50 something miles away and we are upo there almost weekly during the season!

Good luck with the recuperating Martin.                                                   I had a double hernia op when I was building my Six.  Knowing that I would be having three weeks off work after the op, I got my wife to help me to put the engine/gearbox in the week before.  When I came home from hospital, I had a chair beside the engine bay where I could carefully, and without stretching myself, add the engine ancillaries.  Its amazing how much I actually managed to get done in those three weeks of recuperating.  My wife was great though offering up carbs, exhaust headers, etc, for me to bolt on as I couldnt lift anything heavy.

Hi Martin,
i too have an S6 (not so close as Mark Mid Wales) but would be happy to measure anything that might help you out. I also have the Tiger S6 build manual in handy PDF format if you want me to send you a copy.

Martin,

Recommendation No.1 will be buy the uprated trailing arms from Laura at Tiger before you do anything else. The one's supplied with the kit WILL fail!.....do a search on trailing arms.

No.2 would be fit poly bushes now rather than the rubber bushes. Much better and you will upgrade later.

No.3 would be to be very careful with the loom run. There have been some crap examples where the loom has rubbed against bodywork and nearly fried the car.

I am sure there will be more.....oh yes, dont try to bend the speedo cable up the transmission tunnel. It will snap. The general concensus is to run it into the drivers footwell and make a gentle bend up behind the scuttle.

Enough already!!!!

All the best...Mark

Paul,

Thanks for that, I come down to Worcester several times a year to visit mother-in-law - a side trip to Mid Wales could suit very well!!
I have a hard-copy build manual, but a PDF would be really useful, please.

Mark,

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm already considering some of them after reading posts on here, but will take on board.

Cheers,

Martin

Nice Diary.  Please keep it up.   It's a pet hate of mine when peoples diarys just peter out.

Also in years to come it's a good source of info for you.   Wish I had done it.

I was under the rear end of my cat looking at the rust on the suspension while fitting Fuel Pump No3.    All that rust kinda makes me wonder if I ever treated it..

Thanks for the comments, totally agree about keeping up to date.
I'm doing mine as a record for the future, hopefully as a help to others (I've got a lot out of other peoples' sites ) and also in the hope that if someone spots something wrong and lets me know, it'll give me chance to correct it before it's too late!

Making slow but steady progress - updated to end of November.
Could be slowed up for a while as taking on another build at the same time

Trying to get grandkids into kit cars early!

Apologies to all my loyal readers for the lack of updates  but not been much to document in the last year. However, I've summarised 2011 into 1 page and hope to make more progress when I've built another 'Lightning' for my second Grandson

Finally made enough space in the garage, so project now at home.
Don't expect to make rapid progress over next couple of months as need to finish refurbishing gearbox as well as giving rolling chassis a thorough clean.

Just my ten peneth worth but i think rivnuts to hold the body on may be a double edged sword.

1. If the body needs to come of the drilling a few rivets out will be the least of your worries!

2. Rivnuts in our experience do loosen over time, often you wont find out until you come to undo the bolt in them and the whole lot spins.

3, unless you thread lock them or use a spring washer my bet would be that the bolts holding the body on will come loose. If you use spring washers then you also need flat washers or the spring washer will eat into the fibreglass. If you use thread lock then see No:2

Feel free to totally ignore this its your car after all, just trying to impart our experience.

Oh and if you do stay with rivnuts try using some PU adhesive on them before fitting and it will help but not cure No:2

Thanks for the tips, Mac - really appreciate your input. This is my first build and no previous experience with GRP so I'm learning as I go along - all part of the fun[wink].
